The Learning Management Systems (LMS) chapter is a non-technical look at the features and capabilities of learning management systems for both corporate training and formal education use. It considers open-source systems as an alternative to commercial proprietary ones. It discusses the processes of needs analysis, selection, and implementation of the systems choices. Case studies are provided for illustration. It also describes technical and development standards and associated software such as course development/authoring tools, Learning Content Management Systems (LCMS) and virtual classroom tools.
